BATS® Rugby Club

The Bay Area Touring Side (BATS) Rugby Club was formed in 1967.  Based in San Francisco, the BATS were one of the most successful rugby clubs in the US throughout the 70's and 80's.

The "T" is for touring, and the BATS were known worldwide for many major tours and playing many of the top national and international rugby clubs.  Many of those clubs later came to California to play.  Many members of the BATS have played for the USA Eagles.  Through the years, the team won numerous championships, including multiple wins of the Aspen, San Francisco and Monterey Tournaments.  The BATS stopped fielding a regular top division team in 1993, leaving a legacy of worldwide success.

Today, members of the Bay Area Touring Side (BATS) still remain active off the pitch and extend the BATS legacy as they support the next generation of ruggers by fostering amateur sports competition through the support and development of athletes in the sport of rugby football.  Rugby builds unique camaraderie and character.  The BATS seek to provide these lifelong benefits to others just as they have enjoyed.
